Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. in Tuscaloosa County Alabama, U.S.A, is the production location of the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV, GLS SUV, GLE Coupe, Mercedes-Maybach GLS, and the EQ SUVs.
When you hear Mercedes-Benz what words comes to mind? Luxury, expensive, goals, these were the words that would come to my mind. However, if you were from Alabama the name Mercedes-Benz meant so much more words like: proud, family, and quality would be the keywords you were hear when someone in Alabama was explaining how they felt about working at Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc (MBUSI). MBUSI was the first automotive manufacturing plant to come to Alabama and it’s the first Mercedes-Benz plant in North America.
The Challenge
Over the years the pride to work for the luxurious brand has slowly faded. MBUSI was losing its morale and positive team culture. It was no longer seen as a desirable job; instead, it was seen as a “factory” job where they felt unnoticed.
Team Members needed that sense of pride again.
When I started as a new employee in the communications department I made it a priority to increase positive team culture, retain our current Team Members and bring brand awareness.
The Solution
To achieve each goal I wanted to bring attention to what really mattered, the people. The vehicles bring the revenue, without the people there’s no vehicles.
It was important to showcase the Team Members who were responsible for Mercedes-Benz success.
To do so I produced a video series called “ Pulse of the Plant” where each month a new Team Member would be highlighted. This video series gave Team Members the opportunity to introduce the person behind the vehicle. In addition, it gave Mercedes-Benz customers an inside look of the many people who are building their vehicle.
The Stakes
What makes this task more critical is that there’s over 4,000> Team Members in the campus.
